The article “Study: Eat high-water, low-fat foods to lose weight” reports on a new study; the results are published in the May issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Basically, it’s common sense. The more water a food contains, the fewer calories.

The article notes:

Her suggestion for reducing energy density: “Halve the amount of pasta you eat and double or triple the vegetables. In a restaurant, order extra vegetables.” Or choose a light vegetable soup such as tomato for your first course.

… “Consuming large portions of raw vegetables or low-fat soups may help limit one’s intake of other foods that are more energy-dense,” the Guidelines suggest. “The healthiest way to reduce calorie intake is to reduce one’s intake of added sugars, solid fat, and alcohol – they all provide calories, but they do not provide essential nutrients.”
