It’s hard to lose weight on your own. “Counseling Boosts Weight-Loss Program Success” reports that:
The team at the Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, analyzed 46 studies focused on weight loss. They compared data from almost 6,400 people whose programs included dietary counseling and almost 5,500 people who were not in these types of programs.
Programs with frequent meetings and calorie restrictions resulted in more successful weight loss over time, according to the study, which is published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Unfortunately, the article goes on to say that “Three years later, most people maintained half the overall weight loss. However, by the end of five years, all participants had regained the weight.”
This shows that weight loss is not permanent: we change. So rather than worrying about regaining any weight lost, think about lifestyle changes as you lose weight. When you eat a healthier diet, and exercise, you won’t put the weight back on.
Seeing a weight loss counselor like a nutritionist, makes a lot of sense. Your aim isn’t just to lose weight, it’s to eat well, look great, and increase your longevity.
