Want to lose weight but hate the thought that you’ll never be able to eat chocolate or fast food again? It turns out that a little bit of what you fancy won’t do you any harm, and it may just help you to stay on your diet.

“Curb Cravings, Lose Weight!” states:

“Allowing yourself to have the foods you crave, but doing so less frequently may be one of the most important keys to successful weight control,” Susan Roberts, Ph.D., a professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, is quoted as saying.

Life without the occasional glass of beer or wine, or other treat would be pretty boring, so many weight loss experts suggest that you factor in your cravings. Weight Watchers with its Points system for example, factors in “Sweets and Treats” suggesting that if you’re on 20 points for a day, you allow yourself four points for treats.

Having been on Weight Watchers myself, I know that this system of factoring in daily treats works. You know you’re going to be able to indulge yourself, and this makes it easier to stick to the diet.

You’ll find too, that your treats seem to taste better when you’re losing weight: you don’t have them as often, but when you do eat them, you enjoy them all the more.
