Did you know that a can of soda adds the teaspoons of sugar to your daily diet? In terms of calories, that’s 180 calories per 20 ounce can, which is the equivalent of two slices of bread.

Not only does soda add a lot of sugar to your diet, sending your metabolism and blood sugar out of whack, it can also weaken your bones. This makes soda particularly harmful for children. In fact, experts suggest that there’s a strong link between excessive soda drinking and childhood obesity.

How to quit your soda pop habit

Many people find that they’re addicted to soda – it provides a sugar hit in the middle of the day, and it’s hard to wean yourself off it.

Here are some ideas for kicking the soda habit:

* Drink water. A glass of water helps your metabolism, and acts as an appetite suppressant. Often, when we feel hungry, we’re actually thirsty. Drinking water is good for you: if you wait to drink water until you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated;

* Buy a home water cooler;

* Drink herbal and green tea as a replacement for soda.
