The Mediterranean Diet is good for you. Not only can you lose weight on the diet, you’ll also be healthier.

“Support for Med diet’s heart benefits keeps growing” reports:

Consuming a Mediterranean-style diet, rich in fruit, vegetables and fish, may reduce the risk of dieing from cardiovascular disease (CVD) by 30 per cent, says Australia’s largest study of eating habits.

Can you really lose weight on a diet which lets you eat bread, and bread dipped in olive oil at that?

Yes you can. The Mediterranean diet is based on vegetables and fruit, to which are added cereals and pasta. There’s a moderate amount of protein, with meat and fish only being eaten two or three times a week. There’s very little red meat consumption in the diet, although you can opt to eat the occasional steak if you wish.
