If you're the only person in your social group who's trying to lose weight it's difficult. You don't want to miss out on the fun of parties and gatherings. But that may also be the reason you've gained weight, and a new report suggests that your friends may be the reason you can't stick with a weight loss program.
Find support for good habits says: "There's increasing evidence that our social networks -- families, friends and coworkers - have a lot of influence over whether we gain or lose weight. In fact, a study published over the summer in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that social ties may account, at least in part, for the spread of obesity in a person-to-person fashion, much like the spread of a contagious disease."
You don't want to give up your friends, but perhaps you could make some new ones. Consider going to weight loss classes, or enrolling in a gym. If your friends won't go with you, you can make some new ones.
Weight loss is a complete lifestyle change; it may mean forming a new network of healthier and fitter friends, if you can't convince your current buddies to lose weight too.
