Weight loss: fasting can be a dangerous way to lose weight

by angela.booth on September 29, 2007

If you want to lose weight, you may consider fasting, but it’s not for weight loss. I’ve used juice fasting myself at various times, and found that it gave me more energy.

However, Fasting is fine for the spirit, but not for weight loss states: “Fasting to lose weight is a bad and risky idea,’ said Scott Crow, professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. He added that some people who do fast for weight loss can end up with eating disorders.”

Fasting is not an ultimate weight loss solution. We all need to eat, and we all need to eat a healthy diet. Eliminating food completely is not an option. If you’re considering fasting, make sure that you visit your doctor first, and be guided by his/ her advice.

Fasting can bring any physical challenges you have to light very quickly. It can also make those challenges worse. So if you’re considering any kind of fast, visit the doctor. For a healthy person, a one or two day juice fast can improve your sense of well being, but it’s not a weight loss solution.
