A weight loss plateau can be immensely frustrating. You're maintaining your diet, and aren't cheating, yet weeks pass, and your weight loss is stalled.

The challenge may be that you've hit equilibrium. As How to get off weight-loss plateau notes: "You may have stopped losing weight because you are now burning about as much as you are eating. To continue losing weight, you must once again burn more than you eat; to do so you can further increase your exercise or cut back a little more on what you eat."

Eat more to break the plateau

Here's a plateau-breaking tip that's worked for me. In my time as a Weight Watchers leader, others' had great success with this tip too - eat more for a week or two.

Eating slightly more works because it helps to boost your metabolism. Your body gets used to the same intake, and the same amount of exercise. However, because it's in your genes, your body is good at hording calories. Eating more for a time can trick your body into believing that there's no need to hoard, and your metabolism speeds up.

Of course, you shouldn't overeat. Keep your additional intake within bounds. Have another piece of bread, or a small serving of cheese per day.
