Eat Stop Eat: the "no diet" way to lose weight for good -- and keep it off

Weight loss: helping kids to maintain their weight loss

by angela.booth on October 11, 2007

As every successful dieter knows, what matters isn’t just losing the weight, it’s keeping the weight off. A maintenance program is vital, and not just for adults – it’s vital for kids too.

Maintenance Treatment Helps Kids Keep Weight Off reports: “Finding effective ways to help children lose weight and keep it off is becoming increasingly important. The number of American children who are overweight has tripled in recent decades, according to background information in the study, which appears in the Oct. 10 issue of theJournal of the American Medical Association.”

The family solution: a family weight loss and maintenance program

In a family, it’s rare that only one child has a weight problem, usually two or more members are overweight. So getting the whole family eating well, means that you can all lose weight together, and maintain that weight loss too.

Consider:

* Taking up a sport as a family activity – like hiking, tennis or golf

* Cutting down on or eliminating fast food

* Conducting family “weigh ins” weekly to check that weight isn’t creeping on

* Putting money into a special savings account for a family vacation.
