Eat Stop Eat: the "no diet" way to lose weight for good -- and keep it off

Weight loss slowdown: are you forgetting calories?

by angela.booth on October 14, 2007

When you’re trying to lose weight, the first few weeks often go smoothly. You stick to your planned diet and nutritional intake. You drink your water, record what you eat in your weight loss journal, and the weight falls off. “This is easy,” you think. You wonder why people find it hard to lose weight.

Then suddenly you stop losing weight, and you become frustrated. “The diet’s not working!”

Maybe you’ve hit a plateau, but perhaps you’re just not aware of what you’re eating.

Be honest with yourself and you might hit weight goals reports: “Studies also tell us that many people who complain about lack of desired weight loss, forget to count the ‘extras’ they eat in a day. They are aware of the planned meals and snacks, but conveniently forget the piece of candy they grabbed out of the candy bowl at the office or the food they ate off their child’s unfinished lunch or dinner plate. They also may forget the leftovers they ate rather than putting them in the refrigerator for another day. Over time, these few calorie additions throughout the day can counter weight loss goals or contribute to lack of improvement in medical labs.”

When your weight loss slows or stops, it’s often because you’re not aware of what you’re eating – you forget to count some calories, because they’re not part of a meal.

Unfortunately, everything you eat has calories, and everything you eat must be counted. Take extra care with recording what you eat in your weight loss journal, and you’ll soon be losing weight again.
