Weight loss motivation: four tips

Lack motivation? Try these easy dieting tips.

Most of us start our weight loss efforts with good intentions. We start dieting and are more than ready to sacrifice our taste buds at the altar of health.

We also do the regular exercises thinking that we are doing all of this only to lose weight and become thinner. Why then do people quit their weight loss efforts after a couple of weeks? Doesn’t the program suit them or is it that they become disappointed with the results? Actually, once you give up your favorite foods, it is inevitable that you will start craving for them every once in a while.

When you can no longer tolerate the ‘food pangs’, you give up your weight loss efforts and go back to the ‘easy’ lifestyle that you used to lead, the lifestyle that made you overweight in the first place.

Here are four things you can do to motivate yourself to lose weight.

1. Reward Yourself: First of all, do not be too hard on yourself. Analyze how far you have been successful in losing weight, and congratulate yourself for whatever you have lost, even if it is just one pound. Create several short weight loss goals, and once you reach one goal, reward yourself; you really deserve it.

2. Appreciate your new found energy: When you start exercising, you will inevitably gain a tremendous boost in your energy level. You get this energy from the fat burned during your workout session. Instead of whining about how hard exercises are, be happy that since you have got more energetic, you will be able to perform your workouts more easily, without suffering from fatigue.

3. Remember Why You Want To Lose Weight: Often, when you get discouraged by the pressures of diet and exercises, you’ll need to remind yourself of the reason why you chose to lose weight. Did you remember the first time you promised yourself to become thinner? What was the reason behind it? Was it that you couldn’t slip into your old dresses since they proved to be too short for you? Or maybe that you cannot fit yourself into your swimsuit? Or perhaps it was your doctor who, out of health concerns, advised you to lose weight? Whatever the reason, write it down on a piece of paper and stick it on a very visible place. Whenever you feel disappointed and discouraged and want to give up your weight loss endeavors, just have a look at that piece of paper. That would be enough to motivate you to move on towards your weight loss goal.

4. Set realistic goals: If you have set an unrealistic goal for yourself, such as becoming as thin as you favorite celeb, how can you expect yourself to reach such an impossible target? You must take one small step at a time. Stop dreaming about gaining a celeb’s figure – you don’t need one since you are not a celeb. Instead, take one small step at a time. Start by doing exercises only for a few minutes. Then, as you start liking your new workouts, increase the intensity of the same. You will see that slowly you will start loving the workouts instead of hating them.

Weight loss is all about setting realistic goals for yourself and taking the necessary action that would help you reach your goal. Once you get both of them right, you cannot but lose weight.
