Eat Stop Eat: the "no diet" way to lose weight for good -- and keep it off

Fast weight loss: what’s a healthy rate of weight loss?

by angela.booth on January 12, 2009

If you’re just starting out on your weight loss journey, you may be wondering what’s a healthy rate of weight loss.

During the first week of your diet, you’ll lose more weight. This is primarily “water weight”. Depending on how much you need to lose, you can lose between five and ten pounds during your first week.

After your first week, your weight loss will slow. Most experts recommend that you lose a maximum of two pounds per week. This doesn’t sound like much, but it’s the best way to lose. If you try to lose more weight than this, you will slow your metabolism.
