Weight Loss the High Protein Way: Three Tips to Help

Want to lose weight fast? Consider a high protein and low carb diet. There are many of these diets available, in different forms, and they work. Basically high protein diets are based on eating around 30 to 40 per cent of protein per day.

If you enjoy meat and poultry and fish, you’re like these diets. Protein forms the basis of every meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

However, before you start on any diet, go and see your doctor. If you’ve been putting on weight quickly, there may be a medical reason and it’s best to get an all-clear from your doctor before you start tinkering with your diet.

1. Plan Your Meals for a Week and Go Shopping

When you start on a high protein diet, you’ll need to plan your meals. Sit down with a pen and paper and plan your meals for the next seven days. Once you’ve planned what you’ll eat, create a shopping list.

It’s a good idea to double the amount of meat and fish that you buy, because then you can cook double quantities, and you’ll have plenty left over to create healthy lunches for yourself and your family.

2. Choose Carefully when You Eat Out

Many people are on high-protein diets these days, so you’ll have plenty of choices when you go out to eat. However do remember to leave the hamburger buns, and only eat the hamburger.

Salmon, tuna, and other fish make a healthy alternative to meat. Ask to have your fish broiled, rather than fried.

3. Have High Protein Snacks on Hand

A high-protein diet is very satisfying, so chances are that you won’t be hungry between meals. However, do take some high protein snacks to work with you, and then you’ll have no excuse for eating sugary snacks.

You can take slices of beef and a leg of chicken along for a healthy snack while you’re at work, for example.

You can also buy commercial high-protein snacks: protein bars. They tend to be very expensive, but they can be handy for occasions when you’re working late, or if you missed lunch.

High protein diets are very effective, and they help you to lose weight quickly. However you may not be able to stick with the diet long-term. This is because you will develop cravings for carbohydrates.

If a craving hits, drink a glass of water. You’ll often find that within minutes your craving has gone.
