Weight Loss at Home: Create a Healthy Diet


Healthy weight loss starts at home. You can create a healthy diet both for yourself and for other members of your family. There’s no need for fancy dieting programs, or for expensive classes.

1. Healthy Weight Loss Starts With Your Shopping

Healthy weight loss starts with changing the way you shop. You can’t eat what’s not in your pantry or in your refrigerator. Some weight-loss consultants advise you to throw out all unhealthy foods, such as: ice cream, cookies, and all prepared foods.

There’s no need to go this far. However, you can make changes. Stop buying prepared foods. While it can seem as if you’re saving time with these foods, it’s actually easier to cook healthy food from scratch in most cases.

For example, if you’re buying prepared meals, buy the basic ingredients and cook in batches on the weekends. You have sufficient food for 2 to 3 completely prepared meals and it will cost you much less.

2. Plan Healthy Meals for the Entire Family

In addition to being more aware when you shop, healthy weight loss at home starts with planning. Plan meals every weekend for the following week. This means that you can do all your shopping at one time, and know that you have all the ingredients for healthy meals.

Plan to take your lunch to work with you, and prepare healthy lunches for the rest of the family too. Not only does this save you time, it will save you money.

3. Vegetables Plus: Eat Green and Clean

Make vegetables the centerpiece of all your lunches and dinners. Buy seasonal vegetables, because these are cheaper than eating out of season. As with your other meals, you can cook vegetables in batches on the weekends, so that you have vegetables already prepared for weekday meals.

4. Freeze Baked Treats As Single Serves

Dieting doesn’t mean that you can’t have the occasional treat. In fact you should have daily treats, to reward yourself for eating well. When you bake cookies and muffins, freeze these as single servings. Allow each member of the family one treat for lunch.

When you freeze as single serves, you’re reminded that they are treats, and not part of your normal everyday diet.
