1. Let Your Hormones Do It: Get More Sleep

New studies are appearing which show that there’s a direct correlation between lack of sleep and weight increase.

When you sleep, your body conducts needed repairs, and produces all the things you need to sustain life. One of those things your body produces during the hours you’re asleep is hormones. Studies have shown that when you don’t get enough sleep, the production of hormones like leptin, which governs appetite control and fat conversion, is disrupted.

Seven or eight hours of sleep a night isn’t optional, it’s essential for good health and good abdominals too.

2. Add Fiber to Your Diet and Beat Bloat

Everyone’s busy these days, so it’s tempting to eat at your desk, skip meals, and have fast food for dinner. Without the fiber provided by healthy salads and other vegetables and fruit however, your digestion is compromised and you get bloat.

Eat fiber at breakfast (oatmeal or another fiber-rich cereal), and eat salads — fiber provides essential minerals and makes you feel better too.

3. Beat the High-Appetite Cortisol Stress Hormone: Exercise and Relax

When you’re stressed, your body produces stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, which lead to an increase in appetite, as well as to an increase in fat production.

If you get upset, irritated and angry regularly, work out why this is so, and do something about it. If changing the environment which upsets you, whether it’s work or home, is impossible, then change yourself — learn to relax, and get regular exercise.

Exercise beats stress because it burns up stress hormones, so when you exercise, you’re not only losing weight, but also increase your overall health.
