Yes, in order to get quick results, you need to eat only protein and vegetables. Of course this quick diet should not be your only diet for the rest of your life but if you are in good health, with no chronic conditions, you can do very well without grains, sugars, salt or added fat for a short time (that is, no more than a week). Here are some tips to get you started.

Protein: Make protein at least 20 to 40 percent of your daily diet. Protein can include eggs, eggs substitutes, lean meats, low- or non-fat cheese and other dairy products, peanut butter, soy products and tofu.

Vegetables: These should be the bulk of each meal. You may eat them raw, grilled or steamed. Avoid boiling them as the nutrients leach out through the water. If you must fry them, lightly saute them in a very small amount of olive oil. Eat whole versions and avoid vegetable juices as these can lead to energy crashes because vegetable juices are more easily converted to sugars.

What kind of vegetables should you eat? Most nutrition experts say that the darker the vegetable, the more nutritious it is, so go for intense colors like dark lettuce, bright orange carrots to rich red tomatoes. Avoid starchy vegetables like corn and potatoes as well as light green iceberg lettuce. No matter what vegetables you use, be sure to wash them thoroughly before use. If you must buy canned varieties, look for low- or no-salt versions.

The beauty of this quick diet is that you can eat whenever you like. For example, if you are prone to snacking at 3 p.m., you can easily satisfy your craving with a few carrot sticks dipped in peanut butter. Imagine eating a juicy steak accompanied by steamed vegetables ñ what a delicious, guilt-free way to lose weight.
While exercise is not strictly necessary on this diet, it will help. All you need to do is to go for a brisk walk every day. Why not take along a baggie of celery sticks and munch on them while you go for a lunch-hour stroll?

After a week or so on this quick diet, you should see a difference. However, you will also need to start adding whole grains back into your eating.

To keep off the pounds you’ve just lost, avoid junk food, such as cookies, candy and chips. You may find that after your diet, you don’t crave them as much as you thought you would.
