Welcome to 25 days to weight loss. We’re on day one of our quick weight loss program. Starting a new venture is always exciting and a little scary, isn’t it? But don’t worry: This will be an easy, rewarding and most of all, doable weight loss program.
Because this is our first day, it’s necessary to go over what to expect. You will lose weight on this diet — IF you follow the program. But you must follow it — no excuses. How much you lose depends on many factors: how overweight you are, how committed you, are any medications you are on, what you eat and how much you exercise.
Here are the ground rules for the diet. You may want to post these on your refrigerator, at your desk at work and on your bathroom mirror:
1. You will always write down what you eat.
2. You will not snack between meals.
3. You will not take second helpings.
4. You will drink water.
5. You will walk at least 30 minutes every day.
That’s it!
Those are the rules. You won’t have to count calories, fat grams, glycemic index or anything else. You won’t have to take any special diet pills or potions. You won’t have to invest in any fancy weight loss gizmo or gadget that will only collect dust in your closet.
During our 25 days together, we’ll talk about various aspects of a quick weight-loss diet: The good, the bad and the very, very ugly. We’ll be setting up good eating habits that will help you to lose weight and keep it off, starting right now. You may not lose as much weight as you would on the latest weight loss fad diet, but you will keep off the weight that you do lose — starting right now.
To get you started, in this first article we’ll talk about why it is so important to write down what you eat. Most importantly, you need to find out how your eating habits affect your weight.
You probably don’t know how many empty calories you are shoveling into your mouth unless you write everything down. Yes, it can be a pain to do it. You may feel like you are being punished for being overweight. However, in order to break your bad habits you have to know they exist.
While there are many weight loss journals out there in which you can write down how many calories you consume and so on, your writing doesn’t have to be elaborate. Simply write down what you ate and what time you ate it in a notebook or on your computer: ì9 a.m.: One slice of birthday cake at coworker’s party. Noon: ham sandwich, 1 orange, 1 bag of chips.î You can make these entries in less than a minute and no one has to be the wiser.
Keep your notebook with you at all times so you can make notes as necessary. Be sure to write down everything you eat or else the journal will do no good.
Thanks for joining us on this quick weight loss adventure. Tomorrow, we’ll talk more about your journal.
