Lose Weight NOW: 25 Days to Weight Loss, Day 5

by angela.booth on June 5, 2010

We’re in day 5 of our 25 days to weight loss program.

I hope you’ve been sticking with your journal, saying no to snacks and second helpings and getting in some walking every day. Today we’ll talk about weight loss help. Where can you go for help when the scale refuses to move in the right direction?

Your first choice for weight loss help should be your weight loss journal. That’s why you’re keeping one, to see where your bad habits are. If you are getting frustrated that the scale is not moving downward or your clothes are not fitting looser, take a look at your journal. If you’ve been honest about keeping it, you may notice that you’ve been snacking more than you realize or that you haven’t exercised as you could have.

(One caveat: Only weigh yourself once a week and only expect a one- to two-pound loss each week. Any more than that is unhealthy. Try to weigh yourself at the same time of day and wearing the same type of clothing so that you can get a true look at your weight loss rate. Weight fluctuates a lot throughout the day. A better measurement may be in how your clothes fit.)

Your next source of weight loss help should be your doctor or chiropractor. If you’ve been sincerely watching what you eat and increasing your activity level but are not seeing any results, ask your doctor. This is especially important if you are diabetic or have any other chronic condition. If you are taking any medications, including over the counter medications, they may be causing you to retain water.

Another caveat: If you are a woman, remember that you could also be retaining water because of your monthly menstrual cycle. Give yourself at least a week or two on this weight-loss program if you are in your PMS week.

Another good source of weight-loss help is the internet, of course. However, it is very important that you find reputable, medically based websites. As you undoubtedly know, there are zillions of weight loss sites out there, most of them shilling “magical” products. In order to get you to pull out your credit card, these sites pull out dubious research and cite doubtful stats and even create bogus testimonials.

If you want consistent weight loss help, you may want to join a support group, whether online or in person. There are many of these to join, with either a free or paid membership. You may even want to enlist your spouse or your friends as your weight-loss help. Maybe you can challenge each other to lose weight over these 20 remaining days. It’s a great way to share ideas: both what has worked and what hasn’t.

No matter what you choose for weight loss help, keep in mind that what works for one person may or may not work for you. Every body is different and everyone’s lifestyle is different, so your need for weight loss help will be different.

There are many sources of weight loss help. You don’t need to go it alone.
