Lose Weight Now: 25 Days to Weight Loss, Day 9

by angela.booth on June 16, 2010

Can you believe we’re already on Day 9 of our 25 days to weight loss?

By now, you’ve probably lost some weight and are starting to see a difference in how your clothes fit. However, you may also be in the doldrums, that period in which you start to slide off the wagon. Here are some weight loss tips to help.

1. Don’t give in to excuses. I’ve had a rough day at work. It was my daughter’s birthday. There was only one slice of pie left.

If you really want to lose weight, you’ve got to stay strong. While one slip-up won’t sabotage your whole diet, it won’t do you any favors either. The most important weight loss tip is: No means no.

2. If you’ve slipped, forgive yourself and move on. Oh woe is me! I had a second slice of pizza. I’m doomed to plus sizes forever. No you’re not. You made one mistake. Get over it. Record it in your food journal, consider weight loss tips that will keep you from repeating your mistake, and then get back in the saddle. Don’t give the matter another thought. Obsessing about food will only make your effort harder.

3. Lock up the scale. Remember that your weight fluctuates from day to day, even from hour to hour. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so when your weight stays the same (or even rises) despite all your best efforts, you could be gaining muscle (or temporarily retaining water). That’s why most articles on weight loss tips say you should only weigh yourself once a week. When you do, weigh yourself at the same time of day wearing the same type of clothes.

4. Watch out for high fructose corn syrup. This is one of the lesser known weight loss tips. Ever notice how high fructose corn syrup seems to be in everything these days? Even that can of diet green tea has it. It’s really just another form of sugar. While it does improve the flavor of many foods, you don’t need the extra calories if you’re trying to lose weight.

5. Get some sleep. This is probably the most enjoyable of weight loss tips: Most of us are deprived of at least some of the eight hours of sleep we should get. Studies have shown that there could be a correlation between weight and sleep. If you’re not getting enough sleep, figure out a way to do so.

6. Mix up your exercise routine. If you are not in the mood for your daily 30-minute walk, it may be that you are getting slightly bored with it. Consider finding a different route or try a different activity. Your local recreation center or community college probably offers a variety of classes or sports activities that beginners will enjoy. Chances are the teachers and students will share weight loss tips with you.

7. One last weight loss tip is to find a picture to help you visualize your goal. Get a slinky outfit that is just a wee bit snug and hang it where you’ll see it every day. Hang your class reunion announcement on the fridge. Find a picture of a model or a celebrity in an outfit that you adore and post it on your bathroom mirror. They’ll keep you motivated.

These weight loss tips won’t do the work for you but they’ll help you stay on track. What other weight loss tips do you have? Use them.
